Ethiopia in Mosaic
Injera isn't a side. It's the plate, the spoon and half the argument for coming. Ethiopia ferments, roasts and spices with a confidence built over centuries of doing things its own way.

What are the payment terms?
Prior to the payment of your full balance, the final price may change if there is significant variation in the respective exchange rates. Our trip pricing is determined by what the exchange rates are at the time of publishing the trip. A deposit is required to hold your spot. There is a cancellation window of 30 days (applicable to all bookings made at least 120 days before trip departure.) We have implemented a ‘lifetime deposit’ guarantee. Deposits are not refundable, but they are transferable at any time, right up until the first day of the trip. The final balance of the trip is required 120 days in advance of the departure date. Our suppliers require upfront payment well in advance to guarantee availability. Please refer to the full terms and conditions for further information.
How fit do I need to be?
We're still finalizing this trip's details, including its Physical Rating – here's how the ratings work in the meantime. Each Salt Caravan trip is given a Physical Rating from Basic to High They give you an idea of how much physical exertion is required on a trip so you can determine if it's the right fit. You’ll find all the details on each trip’s webpage. Not quite sure - or have some questions first? Contact us for a chat with one of our Salt Caravan Booking Managers to discuss a trip before booking if you have questions about trip suitability.
What's the difference between double and single occupancy?
Double Occupancy Bookings: Double occupancy rooms require the booking be for two participants - this could be a partner or traveling companion. We aren't able to book solo travelers in Double Occupancy rooms and match them up with another solo traveler - please consider booking with someone you know, or a Single Occupancy booking. Single Occupancy Bookings: Single occupancy rooms are designed for one participant and are booked by travelers who prefer their own private room. These bookings are for solo travelers only and can’t be shared with another guest. If you’re traveling with a partner or friend, please book a Double Occupancy room instead. If you want to purchase a single occupancy spot, just select "Double Room - Single Occupant" from the drop-down.
Can I arrive early, or stay on after the trip?
Yes, absolutely. You’re very welcome to arrive before the trip begins or stay on after it finishes. Salt Caravan arranges accommodation for the official trip dates only. Any accommodation or outside the scheduled itinerary is the guest’s responsibility to organize independently. If you’d like to arrive early or stay on after in a room at the Start or End Hotel, simply check the accommodation listed in your itinerary and book it directly through your preferred website. Popular hotel booking sites include: • Booking.com • Hotels.com • Expedia • Agoda 💡 Once booked, update your accommodation status in ‘Manage My Booking’ and enter your booking reference number. We’ll use this to coordinate your room with the Start Hotel so you won’t need to switch rooms.
Are international airfares included?
International airfares are not included. Being trip operators (not travel agents), we are not licensed to sell flights. We recommend contacting your trusted local travel agent to book flights if you’re in need of assistance.
Should I get travel insurance?
In Our Opinion: Yes, Absolutely Travel insurance helps protect you from serious financial and medical risk while traveling overseas. Medical treatment, hospital stays, and emergency evacuations can be extremely expensive in many countries. Even minor illnesses or injuries can result in bills of thousands of dollars without adequate coverage. Comprehensive travel insurance can also protect you if your trip needs to be canceled or cut short due to illness, injury, family emergencies, or unexpected events, and may cover the loss, theft, or delay of luggage and personal belongings. Imagine you develop severe food poisoning halfway through your trip and need hospital treatment and several nights of care. Between medical bills, medication, and extra accommodation, your costs can quickly climb into the thousands. With comprehensive travel insurance, these expenses are covered. Without it, you are personally responsible for the full amount. Many of our trips involve physical activity and travel in remote or developing regions. It is essential that your policy covers adventure-style activities, emergency evacuation, and repatriation. 💡 Upload your policy anytime via the 'Manage my Booking' link provided in payment invoices and task reminder emails.
